But I also want to encourage all of you by saying that no one ever taught me how to paint furniture. A simple paint job is a good start. So, here you go. But no furniture!

Many years ago, I got a little wooden chest from freecycle. I painted it white, and I put it in Zoe’s room, and then Lisey’s, and then when I moved here, I brought it along and kept it in Lisey’s room. The freecycle chest is pretty small. Definitely time for some fresh paint.

You will save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars by looking for the basics in secondhand stores, eBay and Freecycle. Furniture can be freshened with a new coat of paint in your choice of color so that it looks brand new at a fraction of the cost. Do you really need to buy everything new to set up your nursery?

They can be found around your house, or found at yard sales or via freecycling. Dresser drawers, for instance, might be covered with paint containing lead, and you don’t want to re-use buckets that have held dangerous chemicals, no matter how well you wash them. At the very least, a loose layer of rocks in the bottom can help.
