I’m always inspired by your work! In 2007 or so, though, I got a nightstand from Freecycle, and I decided to try painting it. Zoe still uses this freecycle nightstand that I painted for her in 2008 And now I have eleventy zillion furniture painting projects under my belt. Sure, I can tell you what works for me.

Used items don’t use up resources at the same rate, and many of them work just fine. Look for a consignment shop in town, visit Freecycle web site, or check the Classifieds before you go to the store to buy new. However, it makes sense to look for used items before you go buy new. You might be surprised at what you can get.

Did you find something on Freecycle that you were planning to purchase? The key is to figuring out what works and not discounting the value of finding a couple dollars here and a couple dollars there! Another option is to simply bank your savings. If you use $10 in coupons on a grocery purchase, add $10 to a sinking fund.
