Just look at the many people scouring garage sales in the summer. Likewise, thrift stores are always full of people. Blender Fifteen years ago, I bought a blender at a garage sale for $3. I’m going to try sharpening the blades before I give up on it completely. I saved hundreds of dollars this way.

Save any shopping bags you get through the year – especially the paper ones or ones that are unique in design, then use them at Christmas time. Some retail stores do still give out gift boxes for free, always check if you are buying in a brick and mortar store. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales.

For many, the end of the year holiday shopping frenzy can override our saner, more thrifty selves. Sometimes, as we shop we see things we would like to own and decide to treat ourselves with a gift or two as well. I always shop for Christmas wrapping paper, gift tags, boxes and really nice ornaments the week after Christmas.

I give away perfectly good electronics because they are ‘out of date’ – they don’t work with new software. I remember when there was a shoe repair shop on almost every corner. You could take your radio to the radio and TV repair shop down the street, but most things you could probably fix yourself.

Secondhand gear should work just fine and will give your child an opportunity to try the sport out before you invest a lot of money. You can find secondhand sports gear at thrift stores, garage sales, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and sports resale shops, like Play It Again Sports.

Many of the other items I needed like cloth diapers and clothes for the baby in bigger sizes I bought from garage sales. My children get so many gifts from their grandparents and godparents that we’ve been able to scale back how many gifts we give them. All those items got plenty of use as all three of my kids used them.

They kind of look like the ones for sale at Curious Country Creations. Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales. You can pick up beautiful decorations, wreaths, linens, trees and more at these sales. Thrift stores are also a great place to shop. Save On Gifts And Wrapping.
