If so, give the gift of organizing a closet (or 2), kitchen cupboards, a basement, garage, etc. I realize not everyone has family heirlooms to give away, but my grandmother was downsizing and gifted her grandchildren pieces from her Fostoria Glass collection that were my grandparents’ wedding gifts back in 1945.

Last summer, in my annual ‘Grandma Rie’s Money Camp’ (the week long camp I have with my Grandchildren to help them learn about finances); we had a segment on selling and how companies sell to us. Last week I visited a garage sale. It was eye opening for the 10 year old. He even wanted to repeat the segment.

Of course there are certain things I haven’t attempted – putting on a new roof (although my spouse did this); cleaning out the septic tank; installing automatic garage door openers; or installing windows and new doors. I demonstrate making these things to my children and grandchildren, though, just to show that it can be done.
