School started after Labor Day and ended after Memorial Day. Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. Heck, there were barely chain guards! There were lots of kids to play with (we were the baby boom after all). Kids walked to school. Alone or with a friend. I wasn’t that cool.
