Schools usually only had one or two TVs available for the entire school. Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. People listened to the radio, watched TV, went to the local (one screen) movie house or entertained themselves. All TV was free. Kids walked to school. Entertainment.
