Daughters and sons of very wealthy families sometimes want to disown the family wealth in order to prove themselves. Getting them out of the nest and on their own is a big goal of most parents. In Canada, parents can give unlimited, tax free amounts to anyone anytime. I wanted to prove myself.

Setting goals and reaching them continues to be enriching and satisfying to me. Knowing I had the financial backing to live through negative life events (divorce, job loss, catastrophe, etc) removed a level of stress from my life. How can you best protect it from evaporating into the tax systems?
