It seemed reasonable to devote a greater portion to real estate, in order to further diversify our portfolio. We planned to rent out the property and thought it would rent quite a few days of the year. Operating costs of keeping the condo rented have been higher than expected. Generate an income stream.

My sister-in-law and her husband had one that they used and rented out and indicated that it was doing well. I wanted a place for our family to gather – adult children and grandchildren along with us. I also wanted a bit more diversification in our portfolio and figured an additional piece of real estate could help that.

My grown kids are also savers and I have high hopes that the grandchildren will follow their example. Helping the parents teach my grandchildren to save is an ongoing project of mine. Lastly, being a saver sets an example for your children (or grandchildren) to model. Saving is a prerequisite to becoming an investor.
