We’ve taken the girls to New York City before for a day trip to Central Park’s Zoo, but this was a weekend trip and my girls were beyond excited to see their first Broadway show. We left on Friday night and stayed at a hotel in New Jersey and took a bus into the city on Saturday morning.

The Park MGM Don't get this confused with The Park at MGM, which is the hotel across the street. MGM Park is attached to New York New York and is a great outdoor area lined with eateries. That's not all though! Slow down and look around. Look up, because the balconies and windows have some cool details.

My recent good times included driving across the country to move from Utah to Pennsylvania, a trip to New Orleans for FinCon, a day trip to New York City, and an overnight business trip to Kansas City. I’ve done a lot of traveling lately. All I Need Most is in One Bag. Even on the road trip.

You don’t have to stick exactly to the plan (a little flexibility makes for a better trip), but if you have your airfare, hotels, and rental cars arranged ahead of time, it makes things a little smoother. Even if you don’t get everything locked in ahead of time, at least have a good idea of your options.

Pretty much every community in North America puts up a city tree. New York City’s Rockefeller Center ceremony is one of the biggest. Gingerbread houses at local hotels. The display is free to the public and is inside the beautifully decorated lobby of the hotel.

Alcohol was dirt cheap in New Orleans, and transportation was a very small line on our budget in New York City. I just recently returned from a trip to Southern California, where we stayed the entire trip for $50 (the AirBNB cost for our last night there). Thanks, couch surfing! After all, you’ve got to eat!
