We will probably be renting a car for our vacation this year. This year, though, we are taking our precious grandson with us and the van just isn’t as reliable as it needs to be. Of course, I want the best deal possible, so I went scouting to see what I could learn about getting the best deal on a rental car.

Ziploc bags You never know when you'll need to separate something from something else, but also when you want to take a bag of cookies with you or keep your wet bathing suit from getting your rental car seats soggy or have an emergency diaper situation. I have started replacing single-use bags with silicone Stasher bags.

We purchased a vacation condo in a local resort area in 2006 (yep, right before the crash). My sister-in-law and her husband had one that they used and rented out and indicated that it was doing well. I wanted a place for our family to gather – adult children and grandchildren along with us. An accountant is required.

When we traveled, we packed a cooler full of food to eat on vacation and while on the road. Now that there are 5 members of our family, we easily save at least $100 a day every day that we’re on vacation and eating our own food. Use discounts on rental cars. Use hotel rewards.
