Sure I knew about the ‘White sales’ – the ones stores used to have in January on sheets and towels and such, but I really hadn’t a clue that there is a best time to buy many other things! Brand name TVs. Most claimed that the holiday sales were of no-name TVs. Other tips.

Have a big box ready to take the throw-away items and another for anything that is good enough to go to the local thrift store. What about the old refrigerator in the garage you only use when you have a party? Do you have an old TV lurking anywhere that is never watched? Do you really need to have three TVs in your house anyway?

Most of us did not have air conditioned homes. People opened their windows and used attic fans or sat in metal lawn chairs outside to cool off. Most of us did not have clothes dryers, we dried the clothes on a line outside. Some of us did not have central heat. They used aprons over them when they cooked.

Our big ticket items were a hardly used 16" Disney Princess bike that is every girls'' dream except for our little one who is now too big for it and a gently used Handy Manny tool bench that we bought on Black Friday several years ago and still paid too much. And they do work, but they are very old TVs that nobody wants anymore.
