At 8:15 this morning, my youngest daughter climbed on the bus for her first day of first grade. Since the fall of 2005, I have primarily been a stay at home mother to our two daughters. A schedule of school and work will now occupy our days. It’s been a long time coming. Let us know in the comments.

We toured Monticello in 2005 and learned that Thomas Jefferson, one of my favorite presidents died a pauper. Even so his surviving daughter had to live off charity. His work was continued by his nephew, after a devastating return to a working farm during the civil war after the Confederate army seized it and sold it to someone else.

Once I became pregnant with our first daughter in 2005, at the ripe old age of 35, I stopped running completely and took up walking. In my early 30's, I competed in several sprint triathlons.

But I’m a self-employed wife and mother, so I worked through my misery. In 2005, we celebrated our first Christmas as parents. In 2006, our oldest daughter was 1. I can’t find a single picture of our youngest daughter’s first Christmas. I just lost over a week of my life.
