As an adult, I use both cash and credit as well as checks. In 2008-2009 when we had the credit crunch and recession, there was at least one day when stores were not accepting credit. If you didn’t have cash to spend that day, you may well have been stranded out of gas. If I buy anything online, I use credit.

GDP fell by 25% and markets crashed far more than they did in 2008. It took a long time, but the world recovered and recovered very well. This alone may be enough to match inflation or even beat it, depending on how high it goes in the future. The truth is financial markets have always had these “panic” events.

If you want to read up on that stuff, plenty of it was written in 2008 and 2009. I may replenish our supply of fuel oil, matches, candles, lamp oil and wicks. Occasionally, hubby and I have discussed digging a well, building an outhouse and putting in another wood stove and I have on rare occasion considered buying a generator.

Although the companies have done well and survived, the stock holders weren’t (in my opinion) rewarded enough so I sold my positions. I confess to being an amateur on this after the 2008 crash.
