How Our Debt Freedom Plan Prepared Us for the Pandemic. We’d survived the dip in 2007, carried no credit card debt, and we were contributing to our retirement. Our small business was going well, so we said so long to renting office space and purchased a commercial property in the summer of 2012. Our first storm: 2007.

Back in March I wrote about my family’s Debt Freedom Plan. It happened in 2006 and again in late 2012 to early 2013. We also have some renovations and equipment that cannot wait and we need to cash flow. But reaching #2 has given us new motivation to keep plowing away at our business and our Debt Freedom Plan.

However a few years ago, we found ourselves with too much debt and not enough cash. When a building in our town went into foreclosure in 2012, we considered the opportunity to own. The building offered so much potential, but needed a lot of work and we set out to renovate our dream office. Our business is again thriving.
