Since we moved into our home in late 2012, my husband and I have been go, go, go with all of the improvements, renovations and small projects we have been taking on. She asked me how we manage to prioritize our projects and renovations. It feels like every weekend is full of yard work, chop saws, painting and elbow grease.

To many, working with a spouse would be too difficult, but our individual strengths and weaknesses complement each other and the arrangement has worked well. When a building in our town went into foreclosure in 2012, we considered the opportunity to own. Our business was doing well and it seemed like the right time for us to buy.

The journey started in 2012 when we bought an office building for our business and then found ourselves with a lot of debt and not enough cash flow. We still have a mortgage, so we’re technically not DEBT-FREE, but we paid off over 6 figures of business debts and student loans since 2012 and have wiped out our NON-mortgage debt.

Our small business was going well, so we said so long to renting office space and purchased a commercial property in the summer of 2012. But in August 2013 , our business softened, renovations to our new building were more costly than planned, and we were now the owners of two mortgages: our home and our business.

The resort is undergoing a massive renovation this summer and I can only image that it will get even better than it already is! They have a really cute boutique in the entryway where all of the creams and treatments are for sale as well as some fun Lily Pulitzer clothing. © 2012 Nicoles Nickels LLC.
