2016 will be THE year. It has been my obsession goal since we found ourselves in a dicey situation back in August 2013. That was the month I didn’t know if we had enough funds to cover our expenses. We have a retirement to plan , our daughters’ college to save for, and many places to visit. Home Projects.

Wonder what sets you apart from the people that seem to crush their financial goals? They pay off mountains of debt and scream about debt freedom, or maybe they save gobs of money in a record amount of time, or they have considerable success with their new small business. 2016 & 2017 Update. Our 2019 Financial Goal. Happy New Year’s 2019: In January 2019, we were down to one final non-mortgage loan, so we created just one financial goal for the year—-to pay off that last non-mortgage debt by December. We can now move on to other financial goals.

Becoming debt-free became very appealing and the idea of being able to give more, save more, and live more was the direction we wanted to go. We also didn’t feel comfortable with Dave’s suggestion of a $1000 starter emergency fund, which is his step #1. Increase business emergency savings.

Did you make 2018 financial goals ? My husband and I discussed some ideas over our holiday break and we decided on 2 solid must-achieve financial goals for the year. If we complete them early, we’ll move on to 2 additional goals that are on our radar. Save for a camper upgrade.

As I reflect back to January 2016, I started that year pretty determined to pay off the balance of our non-mortgage debts. And we were on a roll in January 2016. Unfortunately, we did not hit that goal and in part, have made some major changes to our Debt Freedom Plan. Oh, and I turned 47 and my husband turned 55 in 2016.

In September 2019, my husband and I accomplished our biggest financial goal in our almost 20 years of marriage. As part of his baby steps, he does not advocate contributing to retirement until after you’ve paid off non-mortgage debts and saved 3-6 months of expenses in an emergency fund.
