2016 will be THE year. It has been my obsession goal since we found ourselves in a dicey situation back in August 2013. That was the month I didn’t know if we had enough funds to cover our expenses. Thankfully, we have worked through those trials and the experience actually made a positive impact on our finances.

Dave Ramsey has a plan and it has worked for millions of people. We also didn’t feel comfortable with Dave’s suggestion of a $1000 starter emergency fund, which is his step #1. But $1000 was not nearly enough money to cover sudden emergencies in both our home and business. He calls it his 7 Baby Steps.

2016 & 2017 Update. Our 2019 Financial Goal. Happy New Year’s 2019: In January 2019, we were down to one final non-mortgage loan, so we created just one financial goal for the year—-to pay off that last non-mortgage debt by December. We can now move on to other financial goals.

Did you make 2018 financial goals ? My husband and I discussed some ideas over our holiday break and we decided on 2 solid must-achieve financial goals for the year. If we complete them early, we’ll move on to 2 additional goals that are on our radar. 2016 Update. Save a starter Home Emergency Fund.

As I reflect back to January 2016, I started that year pretty determined to pay off the balance of our non-mortgage debts. And we were on a roll in January 2016. Unfortunately, we did not hit that goal and in part, have made some major changes to our Debt Freedom Plan. Oh, and I turned 47 and my husband turned 55 in 2016.

In September 2019, my husband and I accomplished our biggest financial goal in our almost 20 years of marriage. As part of his baby steps, he does not advocate contributing to retirement until after you’ve paid off non-mortgage debts and saved 3-6 months of expenses in an emergency fund.
