Even the New York Times acknowledges that: As boomers join the ranks of grandparents, many are financing vacations for their children and grandchildren. We aren’t the first generation of my family to include multiple generations on trips though. We took my Mom with us to Florida in the 1980’s. Start early.

After discussing, he reluctantly agreed that we could fund part of it, but would leave the amount ‘up to my good money judgment’ He didn’t want to be the bad guy and say that he would rather we didn’t go at all, let alone pay for it all. That is a lot of money and I was having some sticker shock at the estimate.
