Not only can you sometimes save on airfare by flying off-peak times, but venues are less crowded on Tuesday vs. Instead, swing by a big box store and find those items where they are much more affordable. Doing so can be less expensive than paying for a hotel.

Since I was getting paid for working and hotel/airfare was covered, we were able to celebrate with a small net effect on our budget. I had been looking for a dining room table for a while, when I decided to simply restore one we already had. It was an awesome celebration. We still look for bargains and shop at thrift stores.
