Although I live 200+ miles away from my two grandkids, I try to get them for a week or so during the summer. There are many documented benefits to utilizing grandparents to watch grandkids. The jury is out as to whether you should pay your parent to watch your children. I’m one of them.

If you are a parent, some day you will most likely become a grandparent. Being a grandparent is tons more fun than parenting. You aren’t responsible for teaching them to behave like human beings. We spoiled our children and we apparently are even more intent on doing so with our grandchildren!

When I was a young adult, out of college and into my first years of marriage, I cringed at the thought of getting money from my parents. Perhaps though, you are doing your parents a disservice by refusing their gifts. Lets explore the topic of parents giving money to grown offspring. I wanted to prove myself.

You know you can’t depend on the schools to teach them what you think they need to know. But you are a super busy parent, with work, continuing education, business travel, your kid’s other activities, church and the myriad of other things that demand your time and attention. It certainly isn’t an exhaustive list!

When she saw that her great-grandchildren were not writing thank you notes for her gifts to them, she sent their parents a set of Thank you note cards with envelopes and postage! Focusing on the negatives in a situation (even when that situation is very dire) doesn’t help you much. She is spunky and outspoken.

If they are primary beneficiaries, the parents or guardians may have to go to court and get themselves designated as able to manage the account for the child. First, if I had managed to convert everything to a Roth, the grandkids would be swamped with hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. There are two problems with that in my mind.

The Grandkids are 9 and 12 now with lots of time before they have to start supporting themselves somehow. It didn’t. I didn’t even realize that most jobs required a doctorate in Psychology to really use the knowledge in a career. I ended up as a retail management trainee – just to get some kind of paycheck.
