Our initial goal was to pay off our 15 year mortgage in 7-8 years by doubling our payment each month. Our house was $150,000 (thank you Texas for affordable houses) and the thought of paying over half a million dollars for it (due to interest) made us sick to our stomach. We did follow Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps to becoming debt free.
