I’ve been an architect, day-care teacher to toddlers, and library clerk, but am currently a SAHM to a 14yo son and 9yo daughter. Enjoying some outdoor time. After I had kids, I swapped that time to growing all sorts of interesting heirloom foods in my backyard. When the weather is nice, we love to find outdoor spaces to explore.

The local library Every year my son, a book lover, signs up for the local library’s reading program. Have backyard fun. While all of these programs are good and should be taken advantage of, if possible, don’t forget to also let your kids just have fun outdoors. They can redeem the points for online prizes.

If you’ve got camping equipment, why not camp out in your backyard? You can have just as much fun roasting marshmallows, telling campfire stories and playing outdoors at home as you can at a campground. Create a Backyard Water Park. Make it a rule to break your normal routine, so no television, video games or computer time.

If we were thirsty, we drank from my parents outdoor water hose without a second guess from our parents. (I We participated with the library''s summer reading program and our church''s one week Vacation Bible School. They''re running in the backyard sprinkler with neighborhood friends. Our summers were spent outside.
