We had been renting for over 10 years and we were ready to find a property to move our business to and eventually build our net worth. Our business was doing very well, and we were excited about the opportunity to own a property outside of our home. Also, the monthly mortgage payment was less than our rent payment.

Our mom stayed home to raise us kids; she went to work part-time in the local school system after both my brother and I were in school. My dad was a blue-collar worker – a machine operator on the railroad who sometimes got laid off for periods of time in the winter. I’ll bet the dollar amount would be staggering. Made me proud!
