I remember the old S&H Green Stamp days when folks would paste their little green stamps (which they go from buying stuff) in a book which could then be redeemed for more merchandise available from the catalog. Credit card rewards programs are no different. The rewards encourage you to charge things on their card.

I’ve noticed a trend lately in the blogosphere of bloggers pushing rewards credit cards to travel for free. Most people have a credit card and why not get some free travel for using it? If you travel more than once per year, typically you won’t be able to churn credit cards to get that many free trips anyway.

I had an unexpected surprise hit my credit card in February. In January 2020, we booked round-trip flights to Paris for the four of us. We tried to remain optimistic that the trip would happen but by May the European airline emailed us that they were canceling our flight and they gave a voucher for a future flight.
