Things mattered to them, even something as small as Christmas wrapping was considered precious. My Aunt, God rest her soul, saved Christmas paper and those silly little paper bows from year to year. Use those as well. Christmas cards are becoming a forgotten tradition, but we still get and give some. Make gift tags.

Stay within budget this holiday season with up-cycled Christmas gifts. I have used the extra money to pay off debt, fund family trips, or build up our Christmas savings. This past winter I cleaned out closets and drawers in my quest to minimize and downsize our stuff and donated everything to the thrift store, rather than hold on to it for the spring sale. My total found money in May: $321.81.

Spending our precious and all too limited time searching online and in stores. Sometimes, as we shop we see things we would like to own and decide to treat ourselves with a gift or two as well. So, hey, I guess I can take the tax reduction next year as well as this! All things Christmas. I know I do. In fact, I did today!

If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. But, find one in a high end neighborhood, one where the store sorts through the donations to select only the best. It will be an extra gift for my grandson’s family next Christmas. Garage sales and thrift stores are great places to find books and DVDs.

I tend to focus on certain brands that I really like and that fit me well. While I like to shop at thrift stores, I have a hard time finding TALL length jeans for my 5’10 frame and I was in need of new jeans. I used coupons and shopped through the Rakuten portal and got a lot of deals at their favorite stores.
