Anyway, I started going through our spring and summer clothes recently to see what our needs are. I figured if I started to sort through clothes now, we will be prepared when it really is time to put away the sweaters and winter coats. She also scarfed up any other gift wrap that looked usable, and she stored it carefully away for use the next year. While I am not that thrifty, and I love prettily wrapped gifts, I don’t like to spend a bunch on wrappings. Use paper drop cloth to wrap. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales.

I stopped by my two favorite thrift stores last week: Salvation Army & Community Aid, a local store. I only go on Wednesdays, because both stores offer an additional 50% off on almost everything. I cleaned out our closets a couple of weekends ago and I found that we are in need of some spring & summer clothes.

The icing on the cake was when I was leaving Maine on my way home to Boston, I stopped at this awesome thrift store right before I got to the highway in York. Unfortunately, I didn't find to much clothing in my size (these are the times I wish I knew how to tailor clothes.oh Tags: Thrifty-ness. This place was heaven!!

For many, the end of the year holiday shopping frenzy can override our saner, more thrifty selves. Spending our precious and all too limited time searching online and in stores. Winter clothes. Stores also stock up on gift sets with cosmetics for the holidays and may need to move it fast in January. I know I do.

You can make it fun for you kids by running a household scavenger hunt in which you reward you children for finding household items to donate, such as clothes, toys, books, old appliances, and canned goods. Public transportation can also be a great alternative depending on the area and your comfort level. And vice versa!)
