When I was in high school , I worked two (sometimes three) jobs so that I could go to college. I wasn’t able to get student loans, which now I see as a blessing. Once I started taking action to pay for school through methods other than taking out student loans, I realized it wasn’t that difficult. Drop Some Courses.

As I reflect back to January 2016, I started that year pretty determined to pay off the balance of our non-mortgage debts. Unfortunately, we did not hit that goal and in part, have made some major changes to our Debt Freedom Plan. Our Debt Freedom Plan Started in 2013: The year 2012 was quite exciting for me and my husband.

I’ve been teaching part time for over 25 years. I like to bake and read, and I spend time chauffeuring kids to activities and games. I volunteer at my kids’ school at lunch time and other events. The single thing that saved me a lot of money over time was not having any student loans for college.

I currently work part-time from home, mostly behind a computer. I came into adulthood struggling to pay my way through college and then struggling to repay student loans on a small salary. I was always in debt, which has been a tremendous source of shame for me. As I was paying my way through college.

These were my college years, when I made lots of stupid decisions. When I’d do things like take out student loans even though I had a full-tuition scholarship and a sweet part-time job in the university cafeteria. The “what were you thinking?” Or put yet another trip to Las Vegas on the credit card.
