The first few years after graduating, I racked up a large credit card debt and bought a new SUV that cost approximately the same as my annual salary. We share our home with a 70lb rescued mutt.

We received a $300 reimbursement from our Aflac supplemental policy for an injury my daughter sustained at volleyball in the fall. Credit cards are a tricky subject and we pay off the balance every month, so I will write more about this soon. This money will go towards paying the actual medical bills from the injury.

Even so his surviving daughter had to live off charity. We toured Monticello in 2005 and learned that Thomas Jefferson, one of my favorite presidents died a pauper. He was so poor that his Monticello (an estate of 5,000 acres and an architectural wonder of its time) was auctioned off. Not all of the US presidents were bad at personal finance.
