I read Millionaire Women Next Door around the same time that I became a mother and left the full-time work force to stay at home with our new baby. Even though I was helping my husband from home part-time with his business, I still felt like I wasn’t contributing to our finances and that drove me crazy.

As the time passed, I was able to figure out ways to save more money and stay on top of my finances. Extra income for me meant anything that I earned above and beyond my full-time office job, from things like freelancing. Extra Income Goes Into Savings. Small Steps. I’m all about the small steps lately, because they work.

My husband and I live within our means and budget and hope our children will learn from example. Of course it’s something one does out of love, but I am quickly realizing how difficult it can be managing these responsibilities, both in terms of my time, and also my emotions and my finances.
