This is money I earned from my Christmas shopping last year, so it’s appropriate that I apply it to my Christmas savings. Also, in February, I received a check of $45 from a family member who was reimbursing us from a group gift that we took care of over the holidays. I added the check to our savings. I don’t recall why I never used the account, but I guess it just slipped my mind. Right before the pandemic started, I opened 529 College Savings Accounts for our daughters. My oldest was in eighth grade and one of my goals for 2020 was to start saving consistently for both daughters’ college education.

By the end of the month, my goal is to help you have a detailed financial plan for your family. Every month, we transfer this money into a savings account that is connected to our checking account. When a bill comes due, I transfer from the savings into the checking to pay to bill. Panic no longer overcomes me.

We still have a mortgage, however I feel like we can switch gears to be less focused on paying off debt and more focused on saving money, building our net worth and retirement, setting up a plan for college for our girls, and having some fun.
