I grew up with frugal parents so it was ingrained in me from an early age. We knew that I would likely not be working full time much longer as we wanted to start a family, so we chose a house that was in a low price range and got a 15-year mortgage. Did you ever receive any financial education in school or from your parents?

My parents are both in their late 70’s and my father recently was diagnosed with diabetes. In light of these recent events, I have found that I’m not only serving as the primary caregiver for my own children, but my parents as well. Most important is that my parents are getting the care that they need – whatever the cost may be.

I read Millionaire Women Next Door around the same time that I became a mother and left the full-time work force to stay at home with our new baby. Even though I was helping my husband from home part-time with his business, I still felt like I wasn’t contributing to our finances and that drove me crazy.

We have a 5 year old son and are in the process of adopting our 2 year old and 4 month old foster sons, making us parents of 3 boys! My husband works as an architect and I teach art part time at my son’s school.

Here something about me that many don’t know…Nearly four years ago, I was working full time in Corporate Finance. I enjoyed my job, but the long hours were becoming longer and my family time was becoming shorter. Before I started FTM, I was an accountant and had always enjoyed the thrill of of shopping.

When my brother and I were growing up, our parents didn’t have much discretionary income. I learned to save money by watching my parents. (I Although my parents never specifically taught me about finances, they lived a frugal life by necessity. Because I understand finances, money doesn’t scare me.
