Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. I love a bargain.

From TVs to gaming systems to phones, buying used can make a great deal of sense, whether you buy used from someone you trust, or whether you buy factory-refurbished , this a good options. Garage sales, estate sales, and moving sales are all great places to look for used furniture. Baby Items. Don’t be!

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Search the attic, the backs of the closets, the garage and see what inspiration presents. Dad’s old cowboy hat and a rope from the garage can be the start of a cowboy get up. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.

Electronics/beauty products/new furniture or household items (I’m using things left by my grandparents & living in their house, have done some changes & repairs but free/thrift is excellent). The hardest-it gets really old being on a tight budget sometimes, even looking at the end game or the why.

Another benefit is that I am cutting the governments out of the loop – there no sales taxes on used stuff (except big things of course, like boats or cars). Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. Brand new board games still in shrink wrap – Cash Flow – $3.

However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. On their personal finance site, US News suggested that some kids get games they don’t want and can’t be returned. I always shop for Christmas wrapping paper, gift tags, boxes and really nice ornaments the week after Christmas.
