Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. If you keep your head and are persistent, you can find many things you want or need, all in near perfect condition, for a fraction of the cost with NO TAXES due. I love a bargain.

Since my blog is set up as a business, I could deduct the expense – or at least depreciate the asset over time – reducing my taxes. So, hey, I guess I can take the tax reduction next year as well as this! You may decide you don’t need or want the item at all if you push yourself to wait to get a bargain on it! Other tips.

What is there today may drastically change tomorrow. What you see today as a quiet family friendly zone, may actually already be on its way to becoming a commercial district. Garage sales make a good excuse to get into the area without it seeming weird or awkward. You probably should be buying your home for the long term.

Another benefit is that I am cutting the governments out of the loop – there no sales taxes on used stuff (except big things of course, like boats or cars). Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. Sales are a great place to find your Christmas décor.

I love to shop garage sales. After you have identified what is needed by doing an inventory of what the kids already have that can be used or re-used and by getting together with friends, relatives and neighbors, you may be ready to hit some of the retail stores to buy the clothes, electronics, shoes and things.

Donate good clothing you really can’t use to a non-profit and bank the tax deduction. There have been countless times I have seen nearly new, decorator pieces being sold for pennies on the dollar at garage sales because the homeowner decided to re-decorate. Pass down serviceable clothing from child to child.
