For many, the end of the year holiday shopping frenzy can override our saner, more thrifty selves. Since my blog is set up as a business, I could deduct the expense – or at least depreciate the asset over time – reducing my taxes. Donate good clothing you really can’t use to a non-profit and bank the tax deduction. A good deal on a big bag of fresh lettuce isn’t thrifty if you can’t use it up before it rots. Making do was a proud tradition just a generation ago – it showed that you were smart, thrifty and responsible. Use up your food.
