I really wanted to reduce our grocery spending for my family of 4 from the average of $634 a month in 2013 to a budget of $450 a month in 2014. It was a bold goal to reduce our spending by so much and I knew I would have to be very diligent with my meal planning.

I planned my menus, but I took my eye off the dollar amount and ended up needing to shift some money from other categories to pay for groceries.
