Then I thought about what it was I wanted to do in retirement (build a new business, travel, annual gifting to the kids, etc) and put a stake in the ground as to what I thought we would need monthly and yearly. You really don’t want to be that needy Mom, Dad, Grandma or Grandpa, leaning on family to provide the human touch!

I come from a family that never smoked – generations that never smoked. I never smoked in high school or hung out with kids who did. Nice middle class Moms (non-smokers) just considered it a nasty, dirty habit – not a threat to their kids. She smoked in the house (as did hubby) while the kids were growing up.

This side hustle income was mainly used for the fun stuff, such as camping, home renovations & repairs, and needs for our kids. Health Sharing Ministry. We weren’t in the market to leave our traditional health insurance plan until the monthly premiums became more than our home mortgage back in November 2016.

Health insurance is a struggle for many people, and for us it became a big source of anxiety at the end of 2015 when our insurance company went out of business. We scrambled to research new plans, but after 11 years with the same company we were out of the loop regarding the insurance landscape at that time.
