So, instead of trying to cram my hubby, my grandson, myself and all of our travel things into my little Toyota Camry Solara (read that convertible with very little trunk space), I’m looking for a mid-sized SUV to rent for a couple of weeks. There was the gas, the hotel, and the restaurants to pay for. I bring a hot plate and a skillet and sauce pan with me to the hotel to reheat freezer meals that I’ve made in advance. Use discounts on rental cars. Use hotel rewards. Ask for a better hotel rate or room.

Hotels often have more amenities than Airbnb, such as complimentary breakfast, fitness centers, and evening receptions. BEFORE booking a hotel or cabin, visit the website or app and sign up for their mailing list. Be loyal to your favorite hotel brand. If the hotel has complimentary breakfast, even better!

Doing so can be less expensive than paying for a hotel. You certainly do not want to return home to a stack of credit card bills you can’t pay.
