My Aunt, God rest her soul, saved Christmas paper and those silly little paper bows from year to year. My brother once cleaned potato chip bags after turning them inside out and used those as gift bags! Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Be unusual.

We had a coal stove at home, but my brother and my shared bedroom was just a few feet from the stove. Of course, later on I did get some really nice real dolls from my St Louis Aunts. I ended up freeze drying them in the garage! In the winter, it was fricken cold in there! Poverty aids the imagination. it was A-OK with me.
