So, with Christmas almost here, I thought you might enjoy a retail merchant’s Jewish child’s perspective on this holiday. After dinner, Dad went off to Schul with his brothers.

As a child, I grew up on a road that didn’t have a lot of houses, so while trick or treat was fun for me and my brother, we only came home with a handful of candy. My favorite memory of trick or treat was that my great Aunt Alice who lived 2 houses down from us gave out FULL sized Clark bars.

My Aunt, God rest her soul, saved Christmas paper and those silly little paper bows from year to year. My brother once cleaned potato chip bags after turning them inside out and used those as gift bags! Holiday tins are also bountiful at these sales. How fabulous would that gift look wrapped in part of your old velvet cape?

My granddaughter laughed at her brother’s antics and then tried to consume the shiny wrapping paper. After too many presents from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and too many opening-present cookies, we took a break for some dinner. Thanksgiving is my most favorite holiday. My favorite part is spending time with my family: my parents, my two brothers, my grandparents, and my aunt and uncle. I look forwarded to it every year and I count down the days right after Halloween.
