I got very lucky when I rented that house, as there was already a 1,500 gallon cistern buried in the backyard! My water bill was pretty much nada. Even if you don’t have the space (or don’t want to dig a huge hole in your backyard) for an underground cistern, you can still use rain barrels to collect some water.
