Lease-purchase agreements fell by the wayside during the housing boom because banks were lending freely. If the buyer still can’t get a loan at the end of the rental term, the seller can finance the deal themselves or keep the buyer as tenant. Today, lenders no longer offer loans to everyone who walks through the door.
