I love a bargain. Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. Moving sales might also be good to check out.

Are you a ‘buy it new’ snob – one of those people who shudder at the thought of using someone else’s cast off stuff? I swore I’d never buy used junk again… but now I’ve changed my mind. In addition, I sometimes practice my negotiation skills by bargaining with the seller.

I love going to garage sales. I took it apart (which took about an hour) and am stripping the paint off the iron (think at least one can of paint stripper) and then will spray with Rust-oleum – and I just found out that the cans I thought I had had been used on lamps! For consumers, that might be an acceptable bargain.

She also loves to go to garage sales and most of her small gifts are loot from her bargains at the sales. If you garage sale, look for those decorations! If so, garage sales are great places to get really inexpensive holiday decorations – typically next to new. In the Giving Mood Now?
