Clothing is cheap, sewing is not. We tend to throw away clothing instead of mending it and we count on cheap overseas labor to keep manufactured clothing easily affordable. There are many crafters, clothing designers and beginning savers who sew. The Frugal Girl blog does a great job of discussing this point!

I own a blog and some other websites and have been wanting a new camera to take pictures and videos for them. Since my blog is set up as a business, I could deduct the expense – or at least depreciate the asset over time – reducing my taxes. However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales.

Have you ever shopped at neighborhood garage sales? Paint will run you upwards of $30 a gallon these days at the big box stores, and then there are the drop cloths, brushes, extender poles and ladders you may need to get to those lovely high spots. Replacing flooring can be even more expensive, in both materials and labor.

There’s always been garage sales/flea markets, library, state parks, fishing. As mentioned, this blog has changed my POV on what’s “actually” frugal, so that makes me feel more successful & victorious! I usually take laundry pods & wash clothes wherever for less luggage/cost.

I pointed out the multitude of new blogs related to saving money, being frugal, getting debt under control and learning about finances. We shopped at garage sales, turned down the heat, combined errands to use less gas, didn’t buy a lot of prepared food, cooked at home and the like. We didn’t have a clothes dryer.
