Don’t buy stuff Whenever we go anywhere with our kids, they want something to take home with them. If you belong to a warehouse, AAA or another club, they may offer discounts on airfare, hotels and even rental cars. They love those little souvenirs. We did this when we went to Florida a couple of years ago.

Buy this for the college kid off to see the world alone. I bought these after our bags got stolen from the trunk of our rental car in San Francisco when we were, literally, 50 feet away having tea. Now, I use these for my laptop, headphones, car keys, etc. This fits in the car vent, is easy to adjust, and is very strong.

This is so much an ingrained habit now that even if my kids outgrow their food intolerances, we’ll still pack our food. Use discounts on rental cars. We rented an SUV for our last vacation because our car is getting very old and the route was fairly desolate.
