Around here January and February are the depths of winter – cold, snowy and blowy, so the arrival of the catalogs is a welcome diversion. We have ordered everything from trees to blueberries; from seeds to bulbs and roots via catalogs.

How Growing Your Finances Is Like Gardening

Our two biggest experiences were in planting thousands of pine seedlings from the state nursery on our 40 acre farm (in our younger years)and planting around 3000 spring flowering bulbs on our current 6 acres. Lawn and Garden Tasks To Do Before the Thaw

None of the trees have produced much fruit in the 5 years since I planted them. I have found that if I spray in February, before things start growing, I kill off whatever it is that is causing the issue, so I’ll do that after I prune, apply true paint and cut up the pruned branches on the compost heap. The Peach Tree Battle

History In 2006 I planted fruit trees, in anticipation of retiring and having time to pick and use the harvest. I ordered them from a nursery catalog and paid a total of about $95 for four trees. I planted them that fall, a dwarf pie cherry, an Elberta peach, a Lodi apple and a Braeburn apple. Plant blueberries instead!
