Business casual clothing was what it called for – meaning khaki pants and a collared shirt for the guys and the same for the girls unless they choose to wear a dress or skirt/blouse. Certain types of shoes were also forbidden (such as flip flops or tennis shoes). Mine had a dress code. How about you?

I remember when there was a shoe repair shop on almost every corner. Remember when high school kids were required to take shop and/or home economics? I used to darn my family’s socks, but now don’t. I give away perfectly good electronics because they are ‘out of date’ – they don’t work with new software.

Splurges: Shoes, books and art supplies. Good shoes are essential for me, as I have accessory navicular syndrome and like to be active. Makeup, nail polish, and clothes. I haven’t worn makeup in about twenty years or so, I can’t remember the last time I painted my nails, and I detest shopping for clothes.

It has just never been economically justifiable. Extra clothes & shoes. In my 67 years, I can never remember a time when I needed to be as self-sufficient as my grandparents or great-grandparents. However, I have longed to have those back up systems in place. Food that can survive without power and is easily prepared.

It’s a great time to stock up on clothes and shoes for year! In general: most clothing and footwear, school supplies and in some states electronics are included tax free. Clothing and footwear: $100 or less. Tax-free weekends are starting for many states. Alabama sales tax weekend Dates: July 17-19.
