However, I had just taken on a new assignment and didn’t feel I could desert the post and leave my company in a lurch. Then the Great Recession hit so I postponed for a few years. When I was preparing to retire, I tried to go part time – but my company wasn’t willing to fill my spot with a part-timer.

We individual investors have all become market skittish since the recent huge recession and economic downturn. I moved my retirement savings from two company plans into an IRA. In 2010 and 2011 I did get a lot of it re-invested, even though it was rising the whole time. My situation calls for getting re-invested in the market.

Although we think of the Great Recession starting in early 2009, it wasn’t until 2013 that the 5 year CD interest rate fell below 1% – and has stayed there ever since according to Bank Rates interest survey data. We could take on debt to grow using other people’s money. Investing requires financial backing.
