Growing up in the fifties made me everlastingly grateful for a number of things, such as hot running water, central air conditioning, automatic dishwashers, TV remote control, the internet, personal computers (typewriters really sucked – no backspacing!), There were no personal computers. There were no garage door openers.

For the rest of you, keep gasoline usage in mind. Leave your car in the garage and carpool to work or school if you can. Opening windows and turning on fans at the right times can go a long way toward regulating the temperature of a house. Next, data packages were added as cell phones turned into miniature personal computers.
