Busy Bee Kids Crafts has a bunch of ideas, one of which is making paper plate tambourines. For the more sophisticated, try crafting a vegetable instrument or band. Garage sales – I found a guitar for $5.00 once at a garage sale and bought it for my grandson. It sounds pretty darn good too.

I love going to garage sales. Last summer, a lady on the street next to ours had a wonderful sale. I found a brand new magazine rack for 50 cents, a 2 foot diameter artfully crafted wreath for $10 and a FREE WHEELBARROW. Free is good, right? Someone offers to pass along something to you at no cost, should you take it?

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Free Kids Crafts has some ideas. Once the kids left home, we ended up with zero trick or treaters at our house on a state highway. No kids = no money on candy = no candy wrappers in the landfill. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.

I bought a roll in 2011 and have been using it for everything from Christmas wrap to kid crafts to posters to mailing packages every since. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. At Lowes online you can get 144 feet of brown, heavy paper for around $9.00. Use paper from other sources.
