Luckily, not poor enough to wreck our lives, but basically we lived paycheck to paycheck—our philosophy was “As long as the bills are paid, spend it all.” Some to the school fundraiser I just got an email about, and the rest to our high-yield savings account! It’s amazing how much “little splurges” add up.

While this philosophy may not be the best boost for my social life, it is a great boost for my savings account! I don’t allow myself to have credit card debt, so I have to have the cash to back up all my purchases. It becomes a special treat instead of an ordinary occurrence. Going out is expensive.
